Internet and Semiotics

How semiotics is being used to explain the new relations among signs given by the digital language and the world wide web? Transmedia storytelling and other semiotic processes that move through a variety of media are of particular interest of this round table. Semiotic theories have been used to describe, analyze and discuss sociocultural, aesthetical or political phenomena that exist in the geographic territory and in the media universe such as network activism and flash mobs. Other phenomena such as the combination of different media qualities and genres in new media that emerge from media convergence are welcome too. The main purpose of the round table is to discuss these contemporary phenomena as a semiotic process, understand its nature and its effects in the media ecosystem.
